Dinner...

Okay, some of you might know I love to cook. So tonight the husband is treated to a surprise dinner with scallops, rack of rabbit (in a ragout with carrots and mushrooms that is) and… can’t tell, it’s still to come! ;)

Julie & Julia

Went to see Julie & Julia yesterday. Nice movie, a bit too long maybe but I’ll watch anything that features Meryl Streep.

Some sad news this morning: Mary Travers, the token female member of the folk group “Peter, Paul & Mary” passed away yesterday. Their songs always remind me of my childhood, I’m glad my parents introduced me to them!

Breakfast with Scot

Alright, it’s been quite a while since my last post. But I had the chance to see “Breakfast with Scot” on the big screen a few days ago and it made me think. Actually I’ve been thinking a lot about the movie since then. Why? Well, for many people it’s just a mainstream gay comedy. Agreed. But you know me, I tend to write my own scripts in my head and always alter the movies I’ve seen if they don’t meet my (mostly romantic) demands.

Here’s what’s on my mind: I’m an incurable romantic and I would have loved to see a bit more romance & tenderness in “Breakfast with Scot”. Okay, the plot somehow implies that the gay couple has to be uptight because they are so straight-acting. But in their own home? Nah, I don’t believe that. One of the actors said there were scenes where he and his partner are kissing in bed. Sorry, are we talking about the same movie here? If there have ever been scenes like that, they have been cut from the final version. I guess the reasons lie elsewhere: First off, the actors who play the gay couple are very famous in Canada. They had to think about the post-Breakfast career. Alright, not everyone can pull off a “Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain” but one peck at the end of the movie isn’t what I call realistic.

Second, Breakfast with Scot was the first gay-themed movie that was allowed to use official NHL logos and uniforms on screen. So maybe the filmmakers wouldn’t have gotten this permission if they had shown just a bit more affection?

In retrospect, I still liked the movie a lot. Maybe someone spots the dvd on my wishlist…I’ll be 28 next week. Did someone just say thirty’s just around the corner? It’s not. Ok? It’s *not*.

Short Review: "On The Other Hand, Death"

Well, it’s been quite some time but now I finally had the time to watch one of my new dvds, the 3rd Donald Strachey Mystery starring adorable Chad Allen again as the gay private eye. I have to say, the “Mysteries” get better and better. The movie has it all: suspense, humor and romance. Plus a great message: Be tolerant and love your children, no matter what. Very nice. And I hope more people will realize how talented Chad Allen is!

And the Oscars went to...

…you all the know the answer by now and I have to say: Sean Penn and Dustin Lance Black both *so* deserve them! Believe it or not, the husband and me were finally able to go and see the movie tonight. It was just…amazing. Especially when you think about the fact that there are still enough fundamentalists who say gay people are sick and will burn in hell. But worse, they don’t stop at that… But Harvey Milk was right: Without hope, life is not worth living - full stop

The nominations are out!

Well, well, the nominations for this year’s Academy Awards were just announced. Milk scored 5 major nominations: Best Actor (Sean Penn), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Josh Brolin), Best Original Screenplay, Best Director (Gus Van Sant) and Best Picture!

Strike!

What are the odds that the movie will take home at least one of those awards? I see a good chance for Best Original Screenplay but I guess the chances are small in the Best Picture category. I also doubt Sean Penn will win. Gus Van Sant might be victorious. We’ll just have to wait and see!

I guess I’ll have to stay up late this year and watch the show! One month to go!

Just have to express

…my absolute incomprehension for this: Can you believe Mickey Rourke (of all people) outrivaled genius Sean Penn at the Golden Globes? I can’t! That is simply ridiculous. But yeah, let some homophobe guy playing a wrestler (!) win instead of an acting genius playing a gay activist! That’s Hollywood!

*KERSHOO*

So this is how 2009 started: Fever - dry cough - chill - night sweat - complete exhaustion. Yes, it’s the flu! *kershoo* Sorry! And no, this blog is not contagious. At least you won’t get the flu! I can’t guarantee for other things!

What’s new? Brian will be outed by Jade in front of the family. No need to say that puts an end to his fake marriage.

There’s not much else on my mind at the moment (I blame that on the flu). Later!

Brian and Luke caught in the act!

It’s the last day of the year and I have just watched the Luke and Noah story on youtube. Well, Luke kissed Brian (his step-grandfather, mind you) longer than his own so-called boyfriend, I’m telling you! I’m really asking myself what’s going on in the minds of those soap-writers. That storyline is worldfamous and they’re ruining it. Although I have to say, I’m still hooked and curious about the outcome. I just feel sorry for all those Nuke-Fans!

If Luke and Noah ever become a couple again, I hope the writers get it right!

Happy New Year, everyone!
